Old 8GB @ Boing Boing (Blip Festival 2007)

I was dragged to Boing Boing because they were talking about a software search I have had for around twenty years, when I remembered I had a participation on a chipmusic round table with BB blogger Joel Johnson, my good friend Paza Rahm and Rugar.

If you have a bunch of tens of minutes to spare, some interesting things were said back then, and you also get to hear me talk like an idiot with a ridiculous accent (which has since improved *ever so slightly*).

New sites coming soon

The main website has needed a facelift for ages (actually, 5 years). I will start to work on that soon, and with no CMS in sight, I’m tired of every website looking the same (just a CMS template).

8GB’s website will be updated too because some new stuff needs to be presented, and that means a new way of communication. That will take some more time.

Meanwhile, I try to get energy back to work on new shit, so the day-to-day routine doesn’t keep wasting my neurons. I have updated copiously the work portfolio, which you can find here.

That’s all from me now. We’re still not popular, so nobody will read this shit xD

I’ll show you what software I been trying to get into again as of late:

WARNING: 8GB Live pirate recording leaked on the Internéz

Satellite Transmission begins
——————————————-
Digital Signature: 3847426F776E734A3030
Data feed author: Agent Akira K
Message body begins:

A group of as of yet unidentified individuals have successfully infiltrated into a recent 8GB live performance and recorded the live propaganda act deployed upon the audience.

We are actively looking for these perpetrators, they are high on the list of the Agency’s most wanted. Any information will be rewarded.

We warn you not to download this file if you see it. I REPEAT: DO NOT DOWNLOAD IT. It contains high voltage dancefloor propaganda deployed upon an unsuspecting crowd in Philadelphia, USA, the 9th of January of 2009.

If you come into contact with this file, we are not to be held responsible for the addictive qualities of its hypnotizing sounds.

Eurotour wrap up…

Yep, it’s been a while folks…

I been trying to recover from a massive trip, without much success.
Why? Because almost as soon as I got to New York, the Blip Festival 2008 started, and with it, my new little North American Tour 08/09… Mind you, it’s more relaxed than the Eurotour, but still pretty active. And I still got a shitload of stuff to fix, all backlogged thanks to almost 3 weeks of absolute Blip mayhem (where I managed to see a bunch of my worldwide friends, and meet some new people).

Before this year ends, I wanted to make a wrap up of my Euro Tour. I still haven’t realized everything that happened to me in those wonderful 7 months, but I am slowly crawling back into it. When i see my flickr account, I can’t believe I been to all those places. The tour can be truly marked as “Epic”.

Also, it’s been done completely by big effort and work of everyone I met around Europe. This was not like those lamers who pay themselves a vacation to anywhere, play in a bunch of pubs and return saying “I just came back from touring Europe”. This was the real deal, with all the joy and suffering it means to do it right and proper.
At this moment I am not lucid enough to say much else, so I want to do what I have to do first: a list of enormous THANKS! to all those who were part of my tour. No matter how small a role they have played in it, they were all vital to the realization of this fabulous experience (which I intend to repeat :D ).

So here goes a huge list, in alphabetical order:

8GB Eurotour END: Live at Barcelona with MicroBCN All Stars

You can’t miss this one…

Vuelvo a New York en una semana…Ahí sevemo…

RED OCTOBER EP – Out now on RETINASCAN!!!!!

RED OCTOBER

Format: 3″ CD-R

RETINASCAN

OSNABRÜCK, GERMANY

On 10 October, the 8-Bit State Security Agency voted 10-2 for a resolution
saying that “an armed uprising in chipmusic is inevitable”,
and that “the time for it is fully ripe”.

As such began the revolt that lead to the RED OCTOBER,
an uprising in chipmusic affairs, featuring 4 tracks of dancefloor-smashing
data propaganda.

8GB’s first-ever EP release on the german label
Retinascan is a small
snapshot of the evolution of 8GB through these 4 years of existance. Being
their first ‘proper’, solo release, after years of holding onto tracks
for the pleasure of those checking out live shows, the Agency decides
to release onto the public a concentrated and powerful package of propaganda,
featuring artwork by kiken.corporation
no less, in the format conceived by our supahfriend Stu
of Dropdabomb.

The same amount of audio power for home use, although It does not include
the energetic stage performance of the 8GB audiovisual experience, so
you best go to those shows! :) This is a release not to be missed.

Includes a freely downloadable bonus track on the Retinascan website,
50hz’s remix of East 105st.

Slacking on updates… but not on activity

OK, amazing.

I take like an hour of my time to resume what has happened the last almost 2 months, and Firefox decides to crash again, seamingly at random, like it’s been doing for the past two months. Like this, I don’t want to update any fucking thing. Mozilla better FIX THIS GARBAGE SOFTWARE FOR MAC once and for all.

So not much to say now, I can’t be arsed. I made a super cool description but all is GONE. So here’s my best try.
I been in Vienna, met Fomoke and her boyfriend, played two gigs, one with the Gameboy Music Club, been in Czech Republic, played another one there in Brno, met Kolouch and drank Becherovka, went back to Switzerland, played in Bern and Luzern, met with Stu, met for the first time Wanga and Carl, creators of Micromusic, went to France’s Côte d’Azur, played in Nice and Marseille, met JDDJ3J, Dr. Von Pnok, Zombectro, Confipop, Realmyop, Psilodump, Lithis, Meneo… returned to Switzerland, spent days at the studio with Stu, finished my Retinascan EP release, and now I am going to Spain’s Barcelona for THE LAST GIG OF THE EURO TOUR ON NOVEMBER 7th. Be there or you suck.

This description sucks much more than the previous one, but blame Firefox.

See you next time!

8GB tonight at Nice, France

Well yeah I been slacking and I have a shitload of stuff to write regarding Austria and the Czech Republic, and also last week’s parties in Switzerland, but I have been so much in the move it’s pretty much impossible.

So today, without further to add, I invite you to the lovely Côte d’Azur in France, where we have a 21/23 degrees (celsius) temperature right in the autumn season :D

See you later, Holland!

Oh well, where to start?

I haven’t written anything here for weeks because I been pretty darn busy touring around The Netherlands in what has been, so far, the wildest and best month of the eurotour.

You saw the previous posts about Tilburg and all that. There’s a video of that night, someone got the last part of my then unfinished new song “61B” and a little bit of the (also new) track “Kein Pfänd”:

After that I continued traveling around with my friends Stu, Goto80 and Computadora . This took me to Enschede for the Gogbot Festival, where I managed to meet up with super cool people like Jeroen from Alles Los, The C-Men, Ceephax, Mike Paradinas a.k.a. µ-Ziq, The Teknoist and The Panacea. It was a pretty amazing weekend, and we also got to preview the new ATAK venue location, which is one of the biggest and most amazing clubs I ever been to. Panacea put the sound system to good test over there :)
